| My shout! I see
a film, tv show or anything else and generally this is where I'm going
to shout about it.
August 2006
Festival Channel 4 (TV
movie -UK)
An interesting tv movie about the Edinburgh Comedy
Festival. I've always wanted to go to this festival and its
portrayal in this film is exactly how I've always imagined it.
Small time shows playing to a handful of people, and being experimental
at best. The plot followed the ritual of the comedy awards and the
goings on behind the scenes to win the big prize, and the how people who
are there to make you laugh are usually the most in need of cheering up.
It was dark, it was funny and I'm guessing it was a lot more true to
life than most comedians would care to admit.
My Super Ex-Girlfriend (film)
I really shouldn't have enjoyed this movie, and truth
be told I didn't really. Save for the presence of Eddie Izzard as
the bad guy, I probably would have caught up on some much needed sleep.
It had promise, cashing in on the Superman movie, the premise was good
but like all comedies these days the best jokes always end up in the
trailer.
Cars
(film)
Pixar does it again, and I really enjoyed this film,
probably a little too much for my age group. What's not to love,
the cars had great characters, the plot was pretty complex (for a kids
movie!) and it gave you that real feel good factor to be going on your
way. The master stroke was not putting the eyes as the head lights
in my opinion, and finally acknowledging that that guy from Cheer's is a
voice in every movie!
July 2006
Superman Returns (film)
It was a superman movie, and it had some fantastic
effects. However I was left feeling a little flat and it didn't
blow me away like I thought it would. I thought the new superman,
Brendan Routh, was an excellant choice in looks but I'm not sure he can
carry a film, and I wanted to see more from Kevin Spacey as Lex Luther
but the writers obviously didn't agree with me. I await the sequel
that I assume will be coming soon.
